Employment is a key driver of wellbeing, both to enable individuals and families to control their own destinies independent of government, and to provide meaning and purpose. Job and business opportunities provide an incentive for individuals to stay healthy, complete school, engage in training, find work, maintain a functional household, and then enable the next generation to begin the process anew. The level of economic opportunity in regional and remote parts of the Kimberley and Pilbara varies enormously. These regions are home to some of the world’s largest iron ore mines, with large onsite workforces. Then there are remote communities that have no economic demand beyond the internal provision of goods and services to residents. |
